Babies, of course! Your health and the health of your growing bundle of joy are important to us at Stevens Community Medical Center. Our Family Medicine providers offering OB services are here from the very beginning of your pregnancy and beyond and we are honored to care for you and your family. 

We are happy to announce that Dr. Jason Huikko joined SCMC August 1st to the staff as an OB/Family Medicine provider, adding to the Family Medicine/OB team made up of Dr. Toby Perkins, Dr. Brent Barnstuble and midwife, Paige Hardy.

Melanoma Awareness Month

Melanoma is the 3rd most common, but most deadly type of skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates in 2017 that over 87,000 new melanomas will be diagnosed in the United States. Fortunately, the risk of melanoma can be reduced with sun protection and when detected early, is highly treatable. May is designated as skincare awareness month and YOU can help spread the news and in turn save lives.

Hospital Appreciation Week

We celebrated Hospital Appreciation Week this week, May 7-13. The staff and facility comes together and enjoys some of the daily goodies and activities that go on each year during this week. Hospital Appreciation Week is celebrated nationally, and here at Stevens Community Medical Center we not only serve the community but are also a part of it. KMRS/KKOK, Annie Harman stopped by early in the week and chatted with various staff and learned about many services that SCMC provides here. She put together a interview that was broadcast on local radio.

Student Intern Opportunities

Stevens Community Medical Center has 2-3 part-time positions, 20-30 hrs/wk during a 10 week internship between May 29, 2017 and September 4, 2017. Student must have completed their junior year of high school and be planning to go into a health care field.  Must have a written recommendation from school science teacher or guidance counselor, and one other recommendation from any other teacher.  Recommendation should include health care career student plans to pursue.

Stevens Community Medical Center Eye Clinic will be having their annual sunglass special. All prescription and non-prescription sunglasses will be 50% off during the month of May.

Eye Clinic hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 am -5:30 pm and Fridays from 8:00 am until 1 :00 pm. The Eye Clinic is located in Stevens Community Medical Center at 400 E. 1st Street in Morris.

April is Autism Awareness Month

Stevens Community Medical Center is partnering with local agency’s that work and support the specifics of Autism. Stop by and get valuable resources to help you navigate questions or if you just want to meet others that are united to support the Autism cause. SCMC and local area representatives will be available to share information about resources that are available in our community.

Stop in Wednesday, April 19 from 5:00-6:30 pm in the lower level conference room of SCMC! We hope to see you there!

 

Spring Allergy Season is Here

As springlike warmth begins, so does spring allergy season, triggering symptoms for allergy sufferers.

Allergy sufferers may become used to frequent symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion or wheezing. Stevens Community Medical Center board certified Allergist/Immunologist Dr. Brennan can help identify the causes. Allergists/Immunologists are highly qualified to manage immune system disorders such as allergies, asthma, inherited immunodeficiency diseases, and autoimmune diseases.

Surgical Weight Loss Info Meeting June 7th

Stevens Community Medical Center will be having an informational meeting for individuals who are considering having weight loss surgery. The group is facilitated by ACMC surgeon Ryan Lussenden, M.D. and a registered nurse. There is no cost to attend. The meeting will be in the Adminstration Conference Room (ACR) at SCMC from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 7.
