SCMC welcomes two doctors

Stevens Community Medical Center is excited to announce the addition of not just one, but two new doctors. Dr. Jason Hughes, primary care provider focusing on family practice and Dr. Jason Huikko (pronounced Wee-co) also a primary care provider, focusing in family practice with OB. 

Dr. Hughes was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and completed a three-year family medicine residency from John Peter Smith Medical Center in Fort Worth and a three-year emergency medicine residency from El Paso. He served as an assistant clinical professor of emergency medicine in El Paso, Texas, and an associate clinical professor of emergency medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. In 2008, he went on to complete a one-year fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has been practicing medicine for 29 years. He was also was an active duty Naval Flight Surgeon in the United States Naval Reserve, stationed in Adak, Alaska as well as Oak Harbor, Washington. He has enjoyed a variety of aspects of family medicine, including pediatrics and elderly care. He is fluent in Spanish and has many years of experience in geriatric and end of life care. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care. Dr. Hughes has a magnetic personality and is known for his enjoyment of travel and his passion for practicing medicine.  

Dr. Huikko grew up in St. Peter, MN. He graduated from University of of Minnesota Duluth and completed his residency at CentraCare U of M program. He spent a few years working in the restaurant management industry and had a passion to care for people which brought him back to school, ultimately changing his career path and choosing medical school. He looks forward to practicing medicine in a rural setting. During his medical rotations, he spent time at SCMC and in that time came to enjoy what the community of Morris has to offer and also enjoyed the people here at SCMC.  His practice will encompass all ages of patients and his focus will be in family practice with OB. His practice will include well-child checks, women’s health issues, anxiety concerns and more.
